I have to say right off the bat that I never even heard of this movie until I was standing in the middle of Blockbuster and a commercial came on for this movie.  Now, I am like a lot of other people in that I get stupid before I go to the video store and end up staring at that damned TV the whole time.  Well, we were all stuck trying to figure out what to get when a commercial for Boondock Saints came on, so we rented it.

I have to say that I am sooo focking glad I did, because this is one hell of a movie.  The basic story goes something like this:  two brothers who work in a meat packing plant are considered by locals to be angels, because they're such nice boys and freaky religious like.  Well, something happens (trying not to ruin the movie) and the brother's end up getting a message from the big man upstairs (or possibly a mutual chemical imbalance, depending on your personal beliefs).

You SURE you ain't Jar Jar BINKS?

So, the two strapping young lads (they're Irish by the way) go about on their mission to kill evil men.  Along the way they meet up with a FBI agent who is pretty focking awesome, and also a gay homosexual.  If you hate homosexuals, or the Irish, or are in some other way a bigot, then chances are you'll still enjoy this movie, though I personally don't think you deserve it.

The action scenes in this movie are pretty intense, the likes of which I haven't seen since, well, Romeo Must Die.  But this movie is different somehow.   I think it is the way that the aftermath of the fight is shown and then Willem Daffoe's (hope I spelled that right) character comes in and analyzes the scene, and you finally get to see the sweet gun battles and missing fingers...  he he he.

Jerry Garcia is in the universal soldier program now

I think the best part of this movie is the history.  The movie was originally supposed to be done by Miramax, but the big Irish guy who wrote and directed it wouldn't put Brad Pitt or Sly Stalone in the movie, so the deal was off.  So The big Irish guy goes somewhere else and gets what he wants.  There's a lot more to it than that, but I'm not a history reviewer, I'm a movie reviewer.

I really can't think of anything bad to say about this movie.  The end was semi-predictable, but good.  El Duche (The Duke) is one hell of an awesome hitman, and really comes across as a total wacko scary killer.  All that and he is only ever in one gun fight.  The other guy that teams up with the brother's is Rocco, who acted and produced the movie if my information is correct.  Rocco is the character's nickname as well as the actor's given last name.  Oh, the joys of being a head cheese, huh?

What the hell is he typin' in our caption?

The real problem with this movie is that it's nearly impossible to find (as of the time of this writing, anyway).  Blockbuster Video has exclusive rights to the movie, and seems to be taking their sweet time making it readily available to the public.   Personally, I break federal laws occasionally and tape the movies when I rent them, which is what I did for this, until Blockbuster gets off it's arse and starts selling the movie instead of just letting people rent it.

All in all, this movie is probably going to be a sleeper hit or a cult classic.  I don't know if it was out in theaters, because I never heard of it until that fateful night at Blockbuster Video.  I do highly recommend this movie, though not as a date movie unless your woman digs indie films.  You should tell her that this movie is an independent film, and if she's into that, you have just shown her that you too can be artistic and sensitive or something.  Then, after you cash in your newly acquired love coupon, you can rent End of Days or Eyes Wide Shut, depending if you want to see a crappy action movie or get your woman all hot and bothered looking at Tom Cruise's ass.
